Ring, the Amazon-owned smart doorbell and home security tech company, announced a new sensor that promises to detect the sound of a window breaking from up to 25 feet away, using AI to distinguish from other noises in the home.
The Ring Alarm Glass Break Sensor, unveiled Wednesday morning, works in conjunction with the Ring Alarm system. Priced at $39.99, it’s scheduled to ship Feb. 16. It is the latest in a line of specialized sensors from the company, joining devices such as the Alarm Flood & Freeze Sensor, and the Smoke and CO Listener.
Amazon already offers a feature called Alexa Guard that uses Echo devices to enable glass-break detection in Ring home security setups, but this new hardware brings the capability to standalone Ring systems.
